1-800-Mikey is the bedroom solo project by Michael Barker which began in 2019 and is based in Western Sydney. 1-800-Mikey has released two EPs independently and two LPs released through Erste Theke Tontraeger in Europe and Under the Gun in the USA. This first album has received praise from FBI Radio which earnt album of the week in April 2022. 1-800-Mikey was offered an opportunity to perform at Gonerfest 2023 which then led to an eleven date tour of the West Coast, The South and East Coast of North America. In August-September 2024, 1-800-Mikey embarked on their first Australian Tour playing shows along the east coast as well as the west coast..In October 2024 the second LP ‘Digital Pet’ was released through Erste Theke Tontraeger in Europe and Under the Gun in the USA. The second record has been well received with the first USA pressing of vinyl selling out in a month and a half.

In the vibrant musical landscape of Berlin, the enigmatic duo known as “33” has emerged as a groundbreaking force, pushing the boundaries of sonic experimentation and collaboration. Founded by its core-members, visual artist and experimental musician Alexander Iezzi and performance artist and composer Billy Bultheel, 33 stands at the forefront of innovation with their album “33–69”. The genesis of 33 was rooted in a desire to redefine collaboration. Iezzi and Bultheel envisioned a space where diverse artists, including musicians, videographers, visual artists, and web developers, could creatively engage with one another. This collective approach gave birth to a unique musical entity that resonates with machine gun techno, bone-chilling industrial tones, and operatic voices, crafting experimental pop songs that transport listeners to another realm.

The collaborative spirit of 33 extends beyond the duo, involving a constellation of talented musicians such as Ivan Cheng, Steve Katona, NAKED, Patrick Belaga, and Dylan Kerr. Together, they subvert traditional musical practices, treating music as a sculptural form, carving shapes from an archive of fragments.

In an insightful interview with 032c, Iezzi and Bultheel delve into their philosophy of collaboration, decentralizing power relations, and embracing the fluidity of creative partnerships. The band’s approach is akin to a changing constellation, where different formations can occur in various contexts, fostering an evolving and dynamic musical journey. The debut album, “33–69,” exemplifies this collaborative ethos. Featuring a broad array of artists, each track becomes a canvas where individual expressions meld into a cohesive sonic experience. From countertenor arias turned pop songs to Latin lyrics about wild nights under bridges, 33 explores the vast spectrum of musical possibilities.

Performing in actual churches, such as the Nieuwe Kerk for the Rewire Festival in The Hague, becomes a quasi-cathartic experience for 33. The echoes of their songs through the vaults and crevices of these sacred spaces elevate the band’s sonic exploration to a spiritual level. As 33 continues to evolve and work on their second album, their journey remains a testament to the power of collaboration, the fluidity of creativity, and the transformative potential of music as a sculptural phenomenon. In the ever-expanding universe of 33, the boundaries of sound are not limitations but invitations to explore new realms of artistic expression.

Alexander Iezzi is an artist, filmmaker and musician living in Berlin. His practice is based on the transformation of materials into scenes, figures, sound, and moving images, in order to attain the surreal. Iezzi collects these materials, sounds, and music (sometimes also protagonists, such as his colleagues or stuffed animals) and redeploys them in order to question the typical forms of perception in psychology, identity, and politics. Iezzi’s work moves between sculptural installations, video, radio and live performance. He received his MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam. In recent years he has exhibited solo or in collaboration with other artists at KW, Berlin; Halle Für Kunst Steiermark, Graz; MOMA, New York; Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam; Galerija Močvara, Zagreb; and Galleri Syster, Luleå. As well as his work as a visual artist, Iezzi has composed music for or performed in Staatsoper, Berlin; Magasin CNAC, Grenoble; Sophiensaele, Berlin; Overgaden, Copenhagen; Tanz Quartier, Vienna – for artists such as Cassie August Jørgensen, Ivan Cheng, Judith Foerster, and more.

Billy John Bultheel lives and works in between Berlin and Brussels. Bultheel’s work as an experimental composer and performance artist bridges contemporary composition with techniques and traditions of European Medieval and Renaissance polyphonic music. His music explores performance and installations, often site-specific, leaving the constraints of the concert hall behind in order to find new territory for musical experiences. The musicians become performers, moving through sound tropes, interacting with architecture, sculpture and custom-made instruments. Amongst his works are ‘The Thief’s Journal’ for Atonal (Berlin 2023), ‘Workers in Song’ in collaboration with the artist James Richards at Wiels (Brussels 2023), Mt. Analogue at Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection (Paris, 2023), ‘Athens Songs I-IV’ at the 7th Athens Biennial (Athens 2021), UNTER in collaboration with Tanya Viviana Abelson for the Schinkel Pavilion (Berlin 2021), ‘Songs for the Contract’ (folia.app 2021), ‘The Minutes of Olomouc’ at PAF (Olomouc, CZ 2020), ‘When Doves Cry’ at the Schinkel Pavillon (Berlin, 2019). In 2012 Bultheel started a 7-year long collaboration with the German performance artist Anne Imhof, working as a performer and composer in Imhof’s early performances, movies and installation. In the later years he composed music for Imhof’s exhibition-as-opera Angst (2016), Faust (2017) and Sex (2019). Faust was presented at the German Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennial and was awarded with the Golden Lion for best national participation. The music for Faust and Sex have been released on LP on the German record label, PAN.

Between 2023 and 2024, the band’s performances have been critically acclaimed in great contexts like ICA London, Rewire Festival, LOST Music Festival, Jetztmusikfestival, Performance Arts Festival in Czech Republic, amongst others.

Fans all over the globe know: Oliver Ackermann always brings surprises. The singer and guitarist of New York City’s A Place To Bury Strangers has been delighting and astonishing his audience for close to two decades, combining post-punk, noise-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia, and avant-garde music in startling and unexpected ways. As the founder of Death By Audio, creator of signal-scrambling stomp boxes and visionary instrument effects, he’s exported that excitement and invention to other artists who plug into his gear and blow minds. In concert, A Place To Bury Strangers is nothing short of astounding — a shamanistic experience that bathes listeners in glorious sound, crazed left turns, transcendent vibrations, real-time experiments, brilliant breakthroughs.

And just as many of his peers in the New York City underground seem to be slowing down and settling in, Ackermann’s creativity is accelerating. He’s launched a label of his own: Dedstrange, dedicated to advancing the work of sonic renegades worldwide. He’s also refreshed the group’s lineup, adding bassist John Fedowitz and drummer Sandra Fedowitz, and the band has never sounded more current, or more courageous, or more accessibly melodic. Aaron Turner is a musician and artist based in Vashon, WA, publicly active since 1995. Most widely recognized for his role as a founding member of the metal bands SUMAC and Isis, and has also participated in projects such as House of Low Culture, Jodis, Old Man Gloom, and Mamiffer.

Active primarily as a guitarist, he has maintained an abiding interest in tethering conscious content to subverted uses of the instrument. His output has been informed by lifetime involvement with underground metal/punk, often materializing in highly abstracted forms utilizing improvisation and longform composition.

He has collaborated with artists such as Tashi Dorji, Justin Broadrick, Masami Akita, Caspar Brötzmann, Keiji Haino, Daniel Menche, Stephen O’Malley, Kevin Martin/The Bug, James Plotkin and many others. Turner is the founder/art director of Hydra Head Records, and more recently the co-founder SIGE Records with partner Faith Coloccia. Current projects include ongoing work with the bands SUMAC, Mamiffer and Old Man Gloom, as well as solo performances/recordings, and collaborations with Jon Mueller and Jussi Lehtisalo of Circle.

“To Speak” 2xLP is out on Trost Records in June 2022.

Acid Baby Jesus is a psychedelic rock band formed in Athens, Greece in 2009. They are known for their high-energy performances and ever evolving sound. With over 23 years working and a sprawling discography to show for that labor, Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus have spent their entire career as ADULT. obscuring any defined genre or style, writing and recording albums as art for life’s sake. On their latest album, the group are back at it with some discordant, doom dance sludge to mark their 9th studio album Becoming Undone. Written between November 2020 and April 2021, the album might be the bands most non-conformant yet. Sure there’s plenty of dance bangers, but ultimately the album is riddled with impermanence, loss and looping dissatisfactions.

A brief history of ADULT.

In 2020, ADULT. released Perception is/as/of Deception on DAIS, an anxiety fueled cyclone of pandemonium that only ADULT. would know how to harness. While This Behavior (2018) was recorded in the isolated snow-covered woods of northern Michigan, Perception is/as/of Deception was given life in a temporary space the duo created by painting their windowless basement entirely black, with the sole intention to deprive their senses, question their perceptions, and witness the resulting ramifications. The pieces that make up Perception is/as/of Deception might be perceived as their most punk-infused and introspective work to date. The elements of frustration and apprehension that have consistently woven throughout their material are at full mast, although augmented by a strident and more “head-on” approach.

Bill Pearis of Brooklyn Vegan writes “The synths, drum machines and vocal delivery all feel more intense, with tracks like “Second Nature” and “Total Total Damage” hurtling you through a strobe-lit tunnel with a cinderblock on the gas pedal, the brake line cut, and doors have been welded shut.”

In September of 2018, ADULT. released their seventh album, THIS BEHAVIOR on DAIS. Called “…one of the best records of their career…” by Ryan Lathan of Pop Matters, the album began as 23 demos written and recorded in a remote cabin in the woods of Northern Michigan during the dead of winter. In total isolation, and with a reduced amount of gear (a modified version of their live setup) on the cabin’s kitchen table, the duo were completely immersed in an incessant, inescapable studio of their own making – looping, repetitive analogue sequences grinding away day and night.

In 2017, ADULT. released their sixth album entitled “Detroit House Guests” on MUTE Records. This project was funded through a Knight Arts grant which allowed them to collaborate with six guest artists: Dorit Chrysler (NY Theremin Society), Shannon Funchess (Light Asylum), Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (Lichens), Michael Gira (Swans), Lun•na Menoh (Les Sewing Sisters) and Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb). Philip Serburne for Pitchfork writes “On their first album in four years, the electro duo curate a highly collaborative record that is richer and stranger than anything they’ve done before. It’s unusually electrifying.”

ADULT. have released five other full length albums on Ghostly International, Thrill Jockey and their own label founded in 1995; Ersatz Audio. They also released their first live album in 2017 on Jack White’s Third Man Records. ADULT. have remixed the likes of LIARS, John Foxx, Barry Adamson and Death in Vegas, to name a few. They are currently working on a collaboration 7” with Planet B – members Justin Pearson (The Locust) & Luke Henshaw.

Alessandro Cortini is an Italian musician, producer, composer, and instrument builder.

Cortini is one of the foremost figures of contemporary electronic music, best known for his haunting, atmospheric work. Alongside being a longstanding member of Nine Inch Nails, he is highly prolific and has released a steady stream of his own heady music on luminary labels including Mute, Hospital, and Important Records for the past decade. Throughout his shadowy rise to fame, he has collaborated with the likes of Lawrence English, Daniel Avery and Merzbow (to name a few). Balancing dark ambience with smokey, pulsing rhythms, his compositions are perfectly restrained, textured and mesmeric.

Cortini was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 through his work with Nine Inch Nails, making history as the only Italian musician to have ever been honored with this recognition.

In 2021, in collaboration with boutique synth builders Make Noise, Cortini released his own, custom-designed, semi-modular synth, “Strega” (Italian for ‘witch’). That same year, he used Strega to build his latest full length, Scuro Chiaro [Mute], which Pitchfork described as “pitched somewhere between purgatory and the planetarium … consistently managing to thrill and surprise”.

In addition to years of extensive worldwide touring, Cortini has also soundtracked fashion shows including Alexander McQueen, Dior, and several of Fendi’s presentations. In 2022, he exhibited a high-concept audio installation called “Nati Infiniti” for Sonar 2022 at Museu de Lisboa’s “Fábrica de Moagem.” A live version of “Nati Infiniti” is set to debut at Berlin Atonal in 2023.

Alessandro Cortini’s music has been licensed for use in television, film, and documentaries, games, and commercials, including Samsung, BMW, Sony, and Netflix. Remixes have also been a part of Cortini’s identity – remixing the likes of Mogwai to Death Cab For Cutie, Yann Tiersen to Vatican Shadow, and more between and beyond.
